Byredo Parfums - Baudelaire
Baudelaire is an olfactory ode. An homage to the eponymous French poet, a bohemian and dandy - like Ben Gorham himself. Gorham harbours a great passion for Baudelaire, his spiritual brother, and finds himself fascinated by Baudelaire’s lyrical masterpiece "Les Fleurs du Mal" - the flowers of evil.
These “flowers” have not only ensured that Baudelaire has become recognized as one of France’s greatest writers, they have also been the inspiration for Byredo’s latest creation - Baudelaire.
« . . . a lazy isle to which nature has given singular trees, savoury fruits, men with bodies vigorous and slender, and women in whose eyes shines a startling candour . . . » (Baudelaire, Les Fleurs du Mal, Parfum Exotique, 5-8)
Baudelaire is, like its namesake, unique and inherently ambivalent. On the one hand spirited and full of sublime repose and on the other, eccentric and full of hidden secrets that lie lurking in the depths.
Juniper dominates the fragrance, a shimmering and multi-facetted presence that skilfully exhibits the sharper edges of pepper and cumin. Incense lends gravity and gives the fruity juniper tartness a certain ethereal vastness, which is accompanied by cool dark leather and accented by subtle floral notes. Depth is added to the subtle ambery base by the recondite warmth of patchouli.
A mature and full-bodied fragrance. Bold and expressive.
