On the island of Bahia Honda by Panama amid a sensual rain shower a mysterious flower suffuses its beguiling scent.

Inspiration

From our travels we always bring back memories of fragrances. This is all the more for perfumers who, upon their travels smell, scent out and sample. Flowers, gardens and landscapes, spices and markets surprise and delight them with their scents. These ”travel emotions” then flow as inspiration into their creations. The collection of "Odeur volée par un parfumeur en voyage" (Scent souvenirs of a perfumer from his travels) by L'Artisan Parfumeur started in 2003 with Bois Farine, followed by Timbuktu and Dzongkha. Today there is a new perfume: Fleur de Liane. The inspiration for this fragrance by Bertrand Duchaufour was a trip to the island of Bahia Honda by Panama. This island, especially in the rainy season, distils pleasurable and wild scents of leaves, plant juices, bark and wood, earth and the nearby ocean. The perfumer is overwhelmed, beguiled and easily falls under the spell of the rich smells of this jungle paradise.

All the delicate and powerful tones of the lush green vegetation surprise him. Rain dripping from large-leaved plants, philodendrons, palms, banana trees, alokasien and dieffenbachia. The huge spirals of lianas partially covered with moss and lichen lure him deep into the jungle on a journey of the senses.

Fragrance

From this trip Bertrand Duchaufour brought watercolors, sketches and photographs, and his memory of the smell of rain and sea spray, but especially this new fragrance: Fleur de Liane. The perfume of the forest of Bahia Honda in the rainy season. The perfume of an unknown pleasurable, exciting, almost intoxicating bloom. The perfume of a lush and very female flower bathed in shimmering green.

Fleur de Liane is the perfume of a fantasy blossom with a startling and luminous harmony of green, flowery aqueous, woody and mossy facets.

Bertrand Duchaufour

Bertrand began his perfumer career in Grasse in 1985. He learned from the senior Master Perfumers at Florasynth and Symrise and shaped during all these years his own approach to Perfumery. He became independent in 2007 and collaborates since then with L’Artisan Par¬fumeur as an inhouse parfumeur as well as many other “niche” players. Art lover and spe¬cifically native art collector, Bertrand is a world traveler always in search of new inspiration.

“I had acquired a very specific approach to perfumery, which is that of all the perfumers in the big labs. By becoming independent, by working in my own lab, directly on my for¬mulas, by weighing them, I’ve developed a different approach to perfumery, another way of building my perfumes. My control over raw materials is getting better and better”. Bertrand Duchaufour.
