Parfums de Marly - Darley
The fragrance Darley pays tribute to a legendary horse, the stallion Darley Arabian, considered as one of the founding sires of modern English thoroughbreds. Darley Arabian was born around 1700 in Syria and was bought four years later by Thomas Darley and taken to England, where he was used, with great success, at stud.
Contrary to the name (and perhaps the conviction of his buyer) Darley Arabian was probably not a purebred Arabian, but had Turcoman roots, namely from the Akhal-Teke, which were bred in Syria and in Iran as racehorses.
Ergo the racetrack was literally in his blood, so it was no surprise that the resulting English thoroughbred stock became known for their amazing skills in this area and superior speed: English thoroughbreds are recognized as the fastest horses in the world and especially fine specimens are often sold at auction for several million dollars.
The recipe for the fragrance Darley is, judging by the result, also worth a great deal: Darley is a cool and crisp marine fragrance which offers a herbal minty-freshness in the head and heart, attended by a surprisingly warm and woody, deep-spicy base. A thoroughbred men’s fragrance and a favorite that’s sure to win by more than a nose!
