Cedarwood

As several conifer species are referred to as cedar, there are also various cedarwood oils of different botanical origin. In perfumery it is mostly the oils from Atlas cedar, Virginia cedar and Texas cedar that are used. The oil from Atlas cedar has a long adhering, aromatic, woody-sweet scent. Virginia and Texas cedarwood oil are both characterized by a distinctive spicy cedar pine-like odor. They are often used as a warming component in woody, chypre, fougère and tobacco fragrances.
