Musk

Originally musk was obtained from the gland secretion of the male musk deer, nowadays for conservation reasons musk is synthetically produced. Its structural similarity to pheromones gives it an aphrodisiac effect. Musk has an animalistic scent with fine woodsy and powdery nuances as well as a sweet note. In perfumery it is often used to stimulate, round off and harmonize fragrance compositions. © By Frank E. Beddard (The Cambridge Natural History, Volume X—Mammalia.)
