Saffron

The precious spice saffron is obtained from the flower of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus). The scented stigmas are dried and used as a tasty seasoning. It is mainly grown in Iran, Europe and the Mediterranean region. The aroma of saffron ranges from sweet, warm and aromatic to bitter, spicy and medically-leathery – a popular fragrance especially in oriental compositions.
