Phaedon Paris - Rouge Avignon

A Gothic composition, as opulent and dark as the shadow of the Papal Palace that has loomed over nations for centuries… The carmine red of the papal stole is conjured up fleshy, spicy notes of rose facetted by ylang-ylang and tart raspberry.

In the heart notes, waxed woods, cocoa bean, black truffle and earthy smoky vetiver lure us into the private apartments of the Supreme Pontiff. Gilt moldings and religious ornaments glint in the firelight while gray tendrils of smoke rise from a slowly swinging censer where burning sandalwood chips mix with musk and ambergris.

Eau de Parfum
Phaedon’s fragrances are composed by guest perfumers and are also available in highly concentrated eaux de parfum. The smoked glass, 100 ml bottle is modeled after an apothecary flask. The Phaedon boxes are decorated with the brand’s signature Ancient Mediterranean motifs: Greek friezes, fig leaves and Assyrian griffins in the ochre hue of Etruscan vases.

Phaedon Paris
The house of Phaedon was founded by two Parisian aesthetes, A.Philippe & M.Stromberg, who share a passion for travel and the ancient cultures of the Mediterranean.

A zoomorphic emblem representing two Assyrian griffins crowns the name of the legendary slave turned philosopher: Phaedon of Elis. Phaedon was born in the Greek city of Elis in 400 B.C. As a youth, he was captured during the battle between Elis and Sparta then bought by an Athenian slave trader. He was serving a meal when one of the guests asked his new master a question. Phaedon was the one who answered the guest, who was none other than Socrates. Dazzled by Phaedon’s wit and beauty, the philosopher bought the young man and made him his disciple.

Phaedon’s fragrances, composed by guest perfumers, are presented either as an eau de toilette or highly concentrated (30%) eau de parfum. Phaedon also offer highly concentrated home fragrances and scented candles produced by master candle-makers working for prestigious brands.

In 2013, Phaedon join the company Guillaume Diffusion, owner of Parfumerie Générale and Huitième Art Parfums.
