Civet

Civet was originally obtained from the glands of the civet cat. When undiluted the secretion smells very intense and almost unpleasant. Only after appropriate dilution does the animal, sweet-musky fragrance with leathery notes unfold. Nowadays civet is synthetically produced and can be found in heavy, oriental perfumes and is also used as a fixative. © von Pearson Scott Foresman [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons
