Carthusia - Intenso Collection - Sandalo

Woody

The Intenso collection is expanded with an exclusive creation: Sandalo, an intense and meditative fragrance interpretation that joins Basilico, Ginestra and Mirto in the history of this collection, dedicated to the excellence of raw materials and the evocative power of scent.

Sandalo tells a story of quiet and refined elegance: an enveloping and contemporary creation that transforms sandalwood into a deep olfactory signature, rich in character and timeless charm. A sensual journey that combines the depth of the wood with the light of the Mediterranean, reinterpreting sandalwood from a contemporary and deeply personal perspective.

Intenso di Sandalo is an intense and enveloping creation that transforms one of perfumery’s most iconic ingredients into an olfactory narrative that is elegant, refined and surprisingly modern.

The Sandalo fragrance
The opening is lively and radiant. Szechuan pepper provides a zesty, spicy freshness, a dynamic aromatic spark that runs through the composition with energy and character, giving the fragrance an instantly distinctive presence.

In the heart note, the Mediterranean soul of the creation comes to the fore. Helichrysum, the wildflower that thrives under the sun and sea breeze of the Italian coast, reveals golden and aromatic nuances reminiscent of sun-kissed landscapes and an authentic connection to nature. Its facets intertwine with unexpected hints of liquorice, lending the fragrance depth, elegance and a fascinating contrast between sweetness and shadow.

In the base note, sandalwood is the undisputed protagonist. Supple, creamy and enveloping, it unfolds in all its richness, leaving an intense and long-lasting trail of fragrance. Its warm, velvety character blends with the aromatic notes of the composition, creating a refined balance between strength and softness.

Intenso di Sandalo is a contemporary interpretation of one of perfumery’s most noble raw materials. A tribute to the beauty of the wood, the depth of emotion and an elegance that transcends time and trends.

Perfumer’s commentary
“In this fragrance, I sought the ultimate expression of elegance; I sought myself in your story, dimmed the light and spoke softly—everything is now enclosed within this imaginary black wood.

An elegant and refined heart note of amber and flowers, with the delicate and hidden presence of iris, shy yet austere. The elegance of elemi opens the doors to a base note revealed through sandalwood, cedarwood, dark amber and vetiver.

A refined and meditative fragrance through which I have attempted to tell your story, imagining how you reveal yourself in a personal conversation about yourself and your life’s journey.” — Meo Fusciuni

About Meo Fusciuni
Before becoming a perfumer, Fusciuni studied chemistry, herbalism, ethnobotany and anthropology in depth. His scientific training and his work with plants laid the foundations for his later understanding of fragrances and natural raw materials. A decisive turning point was a trip to Istanbul in late 2009. The city’s scents – spices, markets, the air of the Bosphorus and the religious atmosphere – inspired him to create his first fragrance project, “Nota di Viaggio” (“Travel Note”). This gave rise to the Meo Fusciuni brand in 2010.

Meo Fusciuni is regarded as one of Italy’s most poetic and personal fragrance artists. His collections – such as the “Trilogy of Travel”, the “Cycle of Poetry” or the “Timeless Trilogy” – are closely linked to his own experiences in countries such as Turkey, Morocco, India, Laos and Japan. His fragrances are often described as “olfactory literature”.

Mehr über Carthusia

In September 2002, for the first time in their history, Carthusia perfumes left the most beautiful of all Italian islands to be presented to the public. Until then, these fragrances had been available exclusively on Capri. But now the time had come to step out into the world, like a gentleman, sober and discreet. The prior of the Certosa di San Giacomo had no idea of this when, in the year of our Lord 1380, he had the most beautiful flowers collected from all over the island for arrangements to be presented to Queen Joanna I of Naples. By chance, after three days, it was discovered that the water had taken on a very special and extraordinary fragrance. The monastery alchemist used this as a model to create ‘Garofilium Silvestre Caprese’, the first perfume from Capri. As history would have it, the old perfume formulas were rediscovered by the prior of the Certosa in 1948, and with the Pope's permission, he presented them to a chemist from Piemont. He immediately began his work in a small laboratory, which he called ‘Carthusia’, meaning ‘Carthusian monastery’. In that laboratory, a magical place rich in aromas and emotions, the fragrances of Carthusia, the fragrances of Capri, are still created today.

The manufacturing processes are the same as those used by the priests: all products are made from the highest quality raw materials, such as rosemary picked on Monte Solaro and wild carnations from Capri, which give these fragrances their inimitable character. Each bottle is filled and packaged by hand, with dedication and experience, just as it was in the past. The medieval formulas have been carefully revised by the renowned perfumer Laura Tonatto from Piemont. The fragrances of Capri are like the island itself: beautiful, noble and elegant. A touch of exclusivity wafts through the air, and during the day the light bathes the island in different colours, completely enchanting the observer. When the red sun sinks into the sea on Capri, the world is in perfect harmony for that moment. Experience this dream with Profumi Carthusia di Capri.
