Galloping from Versailles to Marseille, Madeleine's daring spirit is in the wind. Iris, jasmine and rose dress their petals in beautiful leather. This bold fragrance is a tribute to Madeleine de Maupin – the accomplished horsewoman, fencer and famous dissident of the 17th century.
Madeleine de Maupin is the protagonist of the novel ‘Mademoiselle de Maupin’ by Théophile Gautier, published in 1835. His character is loosely based on the historical Mademoiselle Maupin, who was born Julie d'Aubigny in 1673. This lady led a colourful and exciting life as a fencer and opera singer, among other things. She wore both women's and men's clothing and is said to have been attracted to women, freeing her lover from a convent by faking her death in a fire. This exciting, androgynous woman, who was constantly in conflict with the law and died at the age of 33, provided numerous artists with material for their works.
